The original baby

is now officially 2 1/2 years old!! Y'all probably thought I had forgotten about my firstborn, eh? Since this is more of a personal journal since I have only like 1 reader (Hey Ashley!) I've only been using this as a baby book of sorts. So, I thought I would make sure Sophia felt loved and not forgotten and update on what she's been up to lately!

Sophia Faith you officially turned 2 and a half years old on December 23 and I cannot believe it!! You are an absolute JOY to be around and you bring smiles to everyone's faces.

*You are a petite little thing! You weigh approximately 28 pounds but I have no clue how tall you are. Your clothing size is a bit difficult. Your tops are mostly 2T but your bottoms are tricky. You wear a size 18-24mos for the waist, but they are too short on you. We tried 2T with the adjustable waist but those were a no-go so you are pretty much living in 18/24mo leggings and skinny jeans tucked into boots so that length doesn't really matter. You wear a size 7 shoe.

*You are potty trained!!! It was a rather easy process, too. We decided we weren't going to force you to get potty trained because ultimately we knew you wouldn't until you were ready. Starting around 18mos old your Memaw got you a toddler potty that you loved to sit on, fully clothed, and read books. We tried putting it in front of the TV, giving you the iPad, books, etc to use it but you didn't Just sat on it. I figured that I would really get serious with the potty training once Olivia was born because I would be home for maternity leave and then summer break. Well, that didn't' work either because Liv was colicky and I could never put her down long enough to work with you. You would occasionally want to sit on the big potty and go, but nothing consistent. We got you an insert thingy for the big potty and you much preferred that over your toddler potty. Around 25mos old you started to take more of an interest in the potty so we got serious about it again. In October I pulled out a cookie jar with a witch lid and filled it with treats such as fruit snacks, Halloween candy, Smarties & Tootsie Rolls and told you that the witch said she would give you treats every time you went potty. It worked like a charm! I introduced the witch on a Saturday morning and by Monday morning when we were getting ready to go to Ms. Cain's you asked if you could wear big girl panties & you did and haven't gone back!! You completely skipped pull-ups...went straight from a size 3 diaper to a 2T panty. Another victory: you've been in panties for a little over 2 months and you've only wet the bed 4 times and had 1 accident out in public. We're so proud of you!!

*Your vocabulary astounds us. You were an early talker and have always had an extensive vocabulary and that hasn't slowed down a bit. People are constantly asking us how old you are because of this and making comments about talking to a teenager rather than a toddler. Some of the things that stick out for your talking abilities are: when we ask you to do something you tell us "Just a minute. I'm busy right now." When asking what you want for breakfast you say something like "Uhm, cereal bars. No, actually, pancakes please." "Mommy/Daddy, I'm talking to you. Look at me!"

*You use manners so well and we're very proud of you for that. You don't even need prompted and you say: please, thank you, no thank you, bless you, excuse me, yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, I'm sorry, and thank you very much!

*You are the BEST big sister EVER. period. You adore Olivia and are her biggest cheerleader. Whenever she rolls over/sits up/tries to crawl/etc you tell her "good job! I'm so proud of you!" If she's crying, you immediately tell us and run to her side to see what you can do to help. You help her sit up, roll over, lay down, get toys, hold her bottle, feed her snacks, and so much more. Although we love that you love her so much, we're trying to get you to ease off a bit. You see, Olivia has you to do everything for her so she's in no hurry to learn to do things herself! ha! You still give her random hugs and kisses all throughout the day and it melts my heart.

*Some of your favorite things are: your sister, your Lambie, Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, "kitty" (the iPad), Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Monsters Inc "kitty and boo", all things Christmas/Santa Claus, helping me bake/cook, cereal bars, blueberry pancakes, bananas, yogurt, applesauce, fruit snacks, milk, sweet tea (oops!), coloring, your cousins, boots, playing outside, and I'm sure there's more.

I can't believe you are on your way to being three! Time is soaring by! Like I already said, you are a JOY to us and my heart just swells whenever I watch you loving, learning, and exploring. You are destined for great things, sweet girl. We love you!!

You held onto Livy during the Hayride because you didn't want her to fall off. So stinkin' sweet.

8 Months

Again, I'm a bit late updating, but this is what you were up to when you turned 8 months on Saturday!

*Your unofficial weight is 18.1 pounds...came up with that by holding you on the scale & then putting you down & subtracting the two weights. Very accurate indeed ;)

*You are still wearing a size 2 diaper

*You are wearing 6-9 month clothing but 9 month jammies fit better for their length

*You still have only 2 teeth with no signs of new ones any time soon.

*Still loving your new found love for sleep! You get a bottle around 6:30 then we lay you down at 7:00 & you coo yourself to sleep. You also take great naps! However, you have been rolling onto your tummy during the night and then crying until we come roll you back over.

*You have discovered that tummy time isn't that horrible after all!! You began tolerating it for about 10 minutes at a time and now you are a pro at it. You've began turning yourself around in circles and scooting yourself backwards while on the floor. I think crawling is coming soon!

*You like food...kind of like your momma. ;) You eat 6oz bottles 5 times a day along with baby food for breakfast & dinner. You love love love Puffs and the Wagon thingys.

*You don't use your paci any except for to sleep at night. You occasionally like to hold it and chew on it while playing, but you don't use it except for in your crib.

*You are beginning to like playing in your exersaucer and with the musical sit/stand toy.

*You are such a happy baby now! You like mommy to be around, but you are beginning to let others hold you. You even let daddy hold you for your bottle and you like to sit and play with him.

*You still jabber a lot....dadadadada. It'd be nice to hear "momma" occasionally

These 8 months have FLOWN by! I was hoping you'd stay a baby for much longer...but we are really enjoying this stage. Watching you with Sophia makes me smile like a big 'ol goofball. Love you so much!!

7 months

I'm a little late (imagine that!) at updating this, but this is what you were up to by month 7.

*Not sure your exact weight...my guess is around 18lbs. You're beginning to chunk up a bit. I'll try to remember to check later

*You are still wearing a size 2 diaper

*You are wearing 6-9 month clothing

*You have 2 teeth! Your bottom right tooth broke through and then your bottom left broke about 4 days later. You handled teething pretty well...it messed with your sleeping, but you weren't too crabby overall.

*Your sleeping is beginning to get better! You go to bed around 7, wake up once for a paci, once to eat, and then you get up for the day around 6:45. Now if we can cut out the paci or bottle...or both!

*You are now napping in your crib! You no longer inissit on sleeping in a swing so now naptime is now much less stressful

*You can roll both ways now, but scream like someone is cutting your toes off one by one once you get onto your tummy. You look at us like we're torturing you, but all you have to do is roll back over. I don't see crawling anywhere in your near future since you DESPISE being on your tummy and won't stay on it long enough to get up on your hands/knees.

*You are now officially weaned from nursing. It was so bittersweet. I had hoped to make it to at least 9 months like I did with Sophia, but I'm happy with getting to breastfeed at all. I just didn't produce nearly enough this time around. We slowly dropped your nursing sessions down from morning & night to just morning and then the day you hit 7 months you no longer nursed in the morning.

*You eat a 5-6 5oz bottles a day: 1 in the morning, 3 at Ms. Cain's, and 1 before bed...with usually 1 more in the middle of the night.

*You love yourself some baby food! You have one at Ms. Cain's and one around 5pm. If we are late giving you dinner you become very cranky. Poor thing, you're going to be like your momma and love food. Your favorites are fruit & oatmeal (especially cinnamon pear & oatmeal) and you are beginning to like meat/veggie mixes. You don't really like veggies unless there is something else mixed in.

*You still like your paci, but you really only use it for sleeping purposes. You are now a pro at finding your paci and putting it in yourself....except some nights you can't find it in the crib so daddy goes and pops it back in for you.

*Your favorite toys right now are: Scout, Sophia, Mommy, plastic links, rattles, your feet, and anything that flashes lights or makes noise.

*You are becoming a much happier baby, but still prefer mommy to be around. I wish you'd be nicer to your daddy, though. =(

*You make this silliest faces! You always have your nose scrunched up and your eyes doing something funny. So silly!

*You are beginning to jabber quite a bit. You say "dadadadada" all day long and are beginning to say "bah bah bah" You start out super soft and with the sweetest voice, but gradually get louder and deeper. It's adorable =)

*You appear to be the typical younger child who won't do anything because you know someone else will do it for you! Sophia takes care of you so you are in no hurry. ha!

Miss Olivia, you are absolutely rotten, but we ADORE you and your sweet little personality!
My sweet little parrot

So, my pictures are once again freezing up on me. =(  Santa better bring momma a new computer so I can add pictures!

Livy Grace is 6 months!

Miss Olivia Grace, you are half a year old! Holy cow, time is zooming by! Here's what you've been up to:

*At your well-check (6mos 3days old) you weighed 15lbs (30%), 26 1/2 in (50+%), and your head was in the 30%.

*You are wearing a size 2 diaper

*You can still wear 3-6 mo clothing but are beginning to wear 6mos for their length.

*You are not a very good sleeper. =(  You generally go to sleep around 8:15ish, wake up 2-4 times per night, and then I get you up around 6:45am to nurse & get ready for the day. When you wake up during the night you will occasionally go back to sleep if we give you your pacifier, but more often than not I have to nurse you back to sleep. Coffee has become my new best friend.

*Speaking of sleep: you refuse to sleep anywhere but in a swing. Luckily you still fit in it, but I'm not sure what we're going to do once you can't. Ms. Cain is a bit worried about this, too.

*You are sitting up unassisted! This has made playtime so much more fun for you and Sophia =)

*You roll from back to tummy like a champ. You can almost make it from back to tummy but you stop right before you are on your belly. I think you do that on purpose because you despise being on your tummy. ha!

*You had your first ear infection. You ran a pretty high fever (102) and tugged at your left ear so I knew what was bothering you pretty quick. After your antibiotic we went for your well-check only to discover that your opposite ear was now infected but we had no clue since you didn't run fever or tug at it. Poor baby!

*You are still doing great with nursing but I'm not producing enough to pump so you now: nurse in the morning, have 2-3 bottles of formula at Cain's, nurse in the afternoon & before bed. It's working out for us for now, even though I wish we could have gone a little longer with breastmilk only. You're being fed so that's all that matters!

*You eat a jar of baby food mid-morning and most evenings. You don't really care for sweet peas & peaches, but you love: bananas, apples, green beans, sweet potatoes, fruit/oatmeal mixes, and carrots.

*You still like your paci, but you really only use it for sleeping purposes.

*You LOVE Scout, Sophia, mommy, the cats, your playmat, rattles, and a few other toys.

*You are most definitely a mommy's girl. You are finally beginning to interact with your daddy (without crying/throwing a fit) but you prefer if mommy is holding you while you play with daddy.

*Your smile and deep/short/belly laughs are so sweet. We are beginning to find more ways to make you laugh but it's hard work most of the time! The no-fail methods are: to "bite" your rib cage, tickle the tops of your thighs, and have Sophia do something to "make Livy laugh"

You are such a bright spot in our lives and we are SO SO thankful to have been blessed with you! We love you little Doodle!

5 Months

Miss Olivia, you turned 5 months on September 2. My oh my how time has flown! (Sorry for not posting a 4 month update :(  Our computer has been crashed & that's where I upload my pictures so I've been out of blogging commission for a bit. Anyway, at 5 months you:

*Wear a size 1 diaper

*Are wearing 3-6 month clothing...size 6 month sleepers fit better in length, though

*Not sure on your weight/height stats.  My guess is somewhere around 16lbs?

*You are still nursing well, but my supply isn't that great for pumping. I was hoping to make it to at least 9 months of breast milk only like I did with Sophia, but I don't think we're going to make it. I'm sad about it, but I know it's not the end of the world. Right now you nurse morning & night & full time on the weekends, and have 2 or 3 (just depends) 4oz bottles at Ms. Cain's.

*You started eating a jar of baby food (green beans & apples so far) each evening to try and fill you up for the night....which brings me to:

*Your sleeping patterns are less than desirable. You go to bed anywhere between 7:45-8:45, wake up randomly throughout the night, and wake up for the day around 7:00-7:30. Most of the time when you wake in the night daddy goes and plugs you up & you go right back to sleep. Other times, however, you scream and scream and scream until mommy comes in to either nurse/rock/or sit in the recliner & watch junk reality TV in the wee hours of the morning with you. I live on coffee and Dr.Pepper right now.

*You are slowly becoming more agreeable when around other people. You still freak out if I'm not in the room or holding you, but you are finally starting to smile/coo/look at other people.

*You can roll tummy to back and can almost make it from back to tummy. You despise tummy time so it makes practicing your rolling difficult.

*Some of your favorite things: Sophia, Mommy, your Seahorse, rattles, your pacifier, and blowing raspberries.

We love you so much and you bring so much love to our family!

(as I said earlier, the computer has crashed several times recently so I don't have any "real" pictures to upload right now...and I'm getting the dreaded hum of the computer that means another shut down is coming soon. So, pictures later...or just check facebook. ha!)

Olivia~ 3 months!

Miss Olivia Grace you're THREE months old! Here's what you're up to:

*Wear a size 1 diaper

*I'd guess you weigh around 13 pounds

*Wearing mainly 3 mo clothing. Some is 0-3, some 3-6, and some just 3 months.

*Nursing is still going great! We've upped your bottles to 3.5oz of pumped milk every 3.5-4 hrs at Ms. Cain's. I think we may go up to 4oz soon. You nurse about every 4 hrs during the day and 6-7hrs at night

* You are a pretty good sleeper still but we need to start getting you on a better schedule. You usually go to bed around 9 or so, wake up once to nurse, then back to sleep until around 6:15. We're going to try to get you to start going to bed earlier so it's easier once I need to get back in a routine for work. We'll see how that goes!

Fell asleep watching TV with mommy

*You are still a morning baby...all smiles and lots of coos! You also like to blow bubbles and try to blow raspberries and that tongue is still always going!

*Your hair is already beginning to thin out so it's not as thick/full on your head. Makes me sad :(

*You like to suck on your pacifier, hands, bib, blanket, dresses, etc, etc.

*Bath time is still one of your favorite things! You also got in the pool for the first time after Sophia's party. You weren't too sure at first (I think it was too cold) but you liked it after awhile.

*Tummy time is still the devil according to you. The only way you tolerate it for even a little bit is if I'm laying on the couch and let you lay on my tummy looking up at me. =) We're beginning to "force" some tummy time on the play mat so that you can learn to roll and self soothe and all that jazz.

*Speaking of rolling; you rolled from tummy to back for the first "official" time on July 1. Your daddy got to see you and he was so proud and happy he didn't miss it!

*You are laughing out loud a lot more and it's getting easier to get smiles and giggles out of you. Best thing ever!

*You ADORE Sophia. You can't take your eyes off her anytime she's near and your face just lights up whenever you hear her. She hung the moon for you. Best thing? She's pretty crazy about you, too!

You are growing and changing every day and I love getting to experience so much of the baby stage with you. You are such a sweet girl and we love you so much!

You took your first trip to Gma & Papa's house...just us 3 girls. You spent the majority of the trip on the porch swing with Gma =) spoiled rotten

Sophia is TWO!

Sophia turned two on Saturday, June 23. I cannot believe how quickly she is growing up! She is quite the character and has her daddy & me constantly laughing and smiling. She is at such a fun age and I'm having a blast staying home with her (and Olivia!) this summer.

At 2 years old Sophia:

*weighs 25 pounds (25%) and is 34 1/4in (50%)

*STILL wears a size 3 diaper

*wears a size 6 shoe

*wears size 18mo and 24mo clothing

*has 10 teeth, 2 that have broken through, and 2 more that I can see poking at her gums. She might finally have a full mouth soon. ha!

*LOVES the Bubble Guppies
"It's Goby, Mommy!"

*really enjoys being a big sister. She is constantly hugging and kissing Olivia, getting me diapers, burp cloths, her pacifier, and anything else I ask her to do.

*Talks. a lot. Her vocabulary amazes me and she far surpasses any language milestones for her age. At her check up Monday when the nurse was going through the standard well-check questions she said "Well, I'm not going to go over the questions for language. I heard her talking in the waiting room and I'd say she's got that part down!" then when the doctor came in he said "she's quite the talker isn't she?" ha! If I had to guess, I'd say she knows at least 250-300 words and talks in sentences the majority of the time. Most of her sentences are around 5-8 words.

*Although she's quite the talker, she's also pretty shy. It usually takes her awhile to warm up to anybody (family included) and gets very nervous and whiny when in large crowds. Hopefully this is just a stage she's in.

*She can count to 12, sing her ABCs, and she sings lots of songs like: Farmer in the Dell, Twinkle Twinkle, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and a few more. She's beginning to recognize some colors: orange, red and blue

*She has shown interest in potty training here and there. She goes through spurts: one day she pee'd 4 times and poo'd once then wouldn't sit on the potty again for about a week. I'm not pushing it. She'll learn when she's ready, I'm just following her cues.

Sophia Faith, I am so so SO blessed that you are mine! Your daddy and I prayed fervently for a child and we were given more than we ever deserved when you were born. You are such a joy and have such a sweet and caring demeanor and I pray that you never change. I'm so proud of you and the big girl you are becoming. We love you!!
Her "cheese" face stage. So silly!

Such a good sister! She was trying to help me get Olivia to look/smile for her 2month photo

Olivia Grace~ 2 months

Miss Olivia Grace you're TWO months old! Here's what you're up to:

*Wear a size 1 diaper

*At your dr. appt Monday (2mo 2days) you weighed 11 lb 8oz (75%) and were 23 3/4in (80%)

*Wearing mainly 3 mo clothing. Some is 0-3, some 3-6, and some just 3 months.

*Still nursing like a champ! It only takes you about 20 minutes to nurse both sides...you are serious about your food! You are beginning to eat about every 4 hours during the day and 6 at night. You eat 3 oz of pumped milk every 3ish hours when at the babysitter.

* You are a great sleeper like your sister was...and your momma thanks you! You usually only get up once at night to nurse and you go right back to sleep. You like to be swaddled but you prefer your right arm to be free so we keep it out of the swaddle. silly girl!

*You are happiest in the morning. That's when I get the most smiles and "coo's" out of you. Your smile is so sweet. I wish you'd show it more!

*You still have a lot of hair and your eye lashes are absolutely gorgeous! Your hair has a reddish/auburn color, but I think it might change like Sophia's did. I hope not, though!

*You LOVE to stick your tongue out. We have dubbed you the "lizard" because you've always got your tongue going.

*You also love taking baths and hate it when we have to take you out. We usually put your bath at one end and then fill up the tub and let Sophia bathe with you. You love watching her play in the tub and she loves helping give you a bath.

*You aren't too fond of tummy time on your mat, but you have great head control and love to "sit up" in someone's lap or be propped up near a shoulder so I don't push tummy time too hard.

Olivia, you have been an absolute blessing! I feel like my heart may burst at any moment because I am just so proud of my two girls. I can already tell how much you adore your big sister and you are always keeping your eyes on her. I pray that you have a strong relationship throughout your entire lives and are always there for one another. I look forward to watching you grow and learn but I'm not wishing time away...it's already going too fast! I love you little girl!

LOVE

Check out those jowls ;)

When we go to get Sophia out of bed, she always wants us to lay you down next to her so she can snuggle you for a few minutes. Love love love it!

"talking" to mommy

got that tongue going!

One Month!

Miss Olivia Grace, you are ONE month old already! Here's what you are up to:

*You had a hard time gaining weight at first (born at 9lb 10oz, discharged at 9lb 1oz, still 9lb 1oz at 2week check up (75% for weight & height (21.25in)), 9lb 4oz at weight check at 3 weeks old) but you finally started gaining and  you weighed 10lb 1oz on your one month birthday.

*You wear 0-3 month and 3 month clothing and a size 1 diaper. You weren't in newborns for very long at all!

*You sleep a lot and poop a lot. =)

*You nurse about every 4 hours during the day and every 3 at night. We're working on switching that around.

*You nurse like a champ! You latched on great from the beginning and you eat pretty quickly. Your full nursing session is usually only 20-25 minutes long.

*You are an easy going baby. I'm not going to lie, we were pretty worried because you were so active in the womb! I guess you just didn't have much room in there so you moved around a lot to get comfy. Here in the outside world you are so laid back and easy going. You will lay there and let your sister get in your face, kiss all over you, hug you, shove the pacifier into your mouth, cover you up from head to toe, and lay on you while you are on the mat. You are easy to get to sleep and you only fuss when you are hungry or need changed. Such a sweet baby!

*You started out looking just like mommy but you are quickly beginning to look like Sophia and daddy. It was nice hearing people say you looked like me, but they are quickly changing their minds to say you look like daddy and Sophia now. I'll tell you what I told your sister: you can look like your daddy as long as you act like me. ; )

*You still have a full head of thick, dark hair. It appears to be auburn with a very red tint to it. Sophia started out this way, too, so I'm anxious to see how your hair is going to end up looking.

*You have pretty decent head control and are beginning to track people's faces.

*You have begun smiling and it is so stinkin cute! It makes my heart and face beam!

*Your umbilical cord didn't heal properly and fell off before it was ready. It was pretty gross and stinky, but Dr. W assured me it didn't hurt you. It just took a bit longer to heal and you didn't get to take a "real" bath until the day before you turned 1 month. Don't worry, you weren't the smelly kid in class...we just have to give you sponge baths & wash your hair in the sink for awhile.

*Speaking of; it appears you might have an outy belly button like your sister. We'll see!

Olivia, I can't even begin to express how blessed I am to be your mom. I look at you & your sister and my heart feels like it will just burst at any moment. I am so proud to be your mommy and I'm loving every minute of being with you. I have been on maternity leave and I really feel an ache to be a stay at home mommy for you & Sophia, but that's just not in the cards for us. Thankfully I have an awesome job that I love being at and I get LOTS of time home with you girls, so that will do for now. I'm looking forward to spending the whole summer with my precious girls. This time is flying by and I want to cherish every second of you being my squishy baby. =)

SO Blessed!

What's Sophia up to?

Sophia Faith, you are 22 months old! Here's what you're up to:

*Wear a size 18 month in most of your clothes, but are starting to get into a 24 month. Your shorts/skirts/etc are still 12 or 18 months for the most part.

*STILL in a size 3 diaper

*Wearing a size 5 shoe

*Still only have the 10 teeth. =)

*Are still a picky eater, but I've heard/read that that's normal. You love fish sticks, "chicken fries" (chicken with fries :), chicken nuggets, applesauce, corn, "chocolate crackers" (choc teddy grahams), mandarin oranges, pineapples, apples, and chocolate milk (even though it's usually just regular milk..mom & dad are sneaky like that)

*You talk, talk, talk! I have no clue an exact amount, but you have well over 200 words and are speaking in pretty good sentences. Just about any stranger who hears you comments on how well you talk for your age. We're definitely in trouble as you get older! Just this morning we were driving and I had to slam on the brakes due to the car in front of me and you said "Oh no, be careful mommy! Gotta drive careful"

*You are beginning to be shy in front of crowds. You usually warm up eventually, but it's beginning to take you a little bit before you talk to people when there is a crowd.

*You sleep from 8:00-7:45 usually. We pushed back your bedtime a tad so that you'd sleep a little later while I'm taking care of Olivia. It has worked pretty well so far!

*You are an AMAZING big sister. You just adore Olivia, take care of her, and show everyone you can that she's here. You love to cover her up, rock her, give her the pacifier, turn on her swing & music, help me burp her, give her a bottle, hold her, and give her lots of lovin's. I'm so proud of you!

*You are gaining a lot of independence. It's a tad frustrating at times, but daddy and I try our hardest to sit back and let you explore and figure things out for yourself. It may take an extra 15 minutes to get out the door so that you can try to dress yourself or brush your teeth or put on your shoes, but that's okay! Some things you are doing: asking for certain things to eat instead of just eating what we give you, trying to put on your shoes/clothes, taking off your shoes/clothes/diaper (we had to duct tape the diaper at bedtime for awhile. ha!), getting in the car yourself & climbing into your carseat, walking up/down stairs without holding a hand, brushing your teeth and hair, and so many other things.

I can't believe you are almost 2! We love you so much and are SO proud of you, little piggle. ;)

Looking intently at the animals at the Gentry Zoo

Your "cheese" face...silly girl!

Gotta keep your diaper on! (duct taped)

Giving Livy her first bottle

Such a good mommy taking care of your own baby

You really do love her!

(The pictures are in no particular order apparently...not used to this new set up...oh~well!)
